#291

New York City in
July 2013
on an unusually
cold and rainy
day, the clouds settling in,
the skyline hidden,
a breezy ride
on the Staten Island
Ferry.

I have never owned a brand new
house, and I can't wait to make it
our home, surrounding ourselves
with artifacts of a brief life,
mementos to remind us of a life,
well-lived.

Dark wood floors
remind me of the home
I grew up in, dancing
on dad's feet, learning how
to waltz, him singing
"The Tennessee Waltz,"
me smiling at the line,
"I was dancin' with my darlin',"
knowing that despite my mother
and five sisters,
on that day, he meant it
just for me.

My life has been consumed
by new house shopping
and the fun of looking at
the styles we will have
once we move in.

So, the third time is not
a charm, because
we now have this
brand spanking new
home to consider
and Jerry will like all of
that glorious storage space
for his coveted beer cans.

Jerry dug up the statue of St. Joseph,
showing signs of the acid in the soil
in Aurora, Nebraska, a ph balance
that eroded the paint, Joseph's apron
spotted blue,
after only five months in the ground.

For the third time now,
I have posted photos,
hopeful for a house,
so I'm hoping this
time is a charm,
and that we can
actually purchase
this home,
a perfect fit for us.
(But I have said this before!)
